² Now there is in Jerusalem near the Sheep Gate^(A) a pool, which in Aramaic^(B) is called Bethesda^[a] and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades.

²⁰ Many of the Jews read this sign, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city,^(A) and the sign was written in Aramaic, Latin and Greek.

⁴⁰ After receiving the commander’s permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned^(A) to the crowd. When they were all silent, he said to them in Aramaic^[a]:^(B)

² When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic,^(A) they became very quiet.

Then Paul said:

¹⁴ We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice^(A) saying to me in Aramaic,^[a](B) ‘Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’

¹¹ They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss,^(A) whose name in Hebrew^(B) is Abaddon^(C) and in Greek is Apollyon (that is, Destroyer).
